Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina Restaurant Review

Silantro is a quaint restaurant located along the streets of Kapitolyo, Pasig. Through Silantro's front doors is a room stringent with the aroma of grilled beef, hot sauce and melted cheese--a prime example of what a FilMex cantina should really smell like. The interiors are rustic and homey which creates a comfortable atmosphere for the restaurant's customers. On each of the dining tables there are three sauces: the garlic sauce, silantro sauce, and the mystery mix of different herbs and chillis that will leave anyone gasping for water.
Silantro is like no other, simply because it's a fusion of Filipino and Tex-Mex food. It serves a normal Tex-Mex menu with a distinct--and unique--taste. The food is American Mexican alright, but the rich influence of Filipino cuisine is very much present in the strong flavours that each bite packs.
Powerful piquancy and all, Silantro's food is delightfully palatable. The chef seems to have mastered the art of creating odd combinations that will surprise but delight at the same time. And for a price range of 75-180 pesos per person? Major kudos.
My Favourites
Calliente Wings
I'm not a big fan of chicken wings, but these are the only exception. Of all the dishes I have tried, the combinations of peppery and sweet in this one reminds me of home the most.
Soft-shell Taco
These tacos are available in the Ligero (one choice of meat), Medio (two choices of meat), and Completo (three choices of meat). When you top it with all three sauces you get a piece of heaven in every bite. It's so good you'll be too happy to care about the mess of sauces that will probably drip all over your shirt while you're eating it.
Beef Nachos
I'm a huge sucker for nachos (and by that I mean all nachos please me) but there is just something about the way the sauces, cheeses, salsa and meat come together. I would definitely rank this dish one of the best of all on Silantro's menu.

Beef Quesadilla
It doesn't look like a regular quesadilla, and it definitely doesn't taste like one either. Silantro's stack of crazy-good flavoured fries over a cheesy, gravy-covered beef quesadilla is the perfect day-ender, especially if you need something to brighten up your day.
